If you can apply your own make-up or doodle a simple design, you can learn to face paint for a kids party. With these easy tips and techniques and a little practice, you'll be turning out all sorts of colorful characters. Here's how to achieve spectacular results and the admiration of children and parents alike.
First and foremost, inform parents that there will be face painting at your party. Check for any skin allergies. Do not paint children with open cuts or rashes.
Prepare by obtaining the correct paints and materials. Use water-based paints which clean off easily with wet wipes or mild soap and water. Whenever possible, Use paints that have FDA approval for cosmetics. Acrylic paints are not meant for use on the skin and should be avoided.

Red works well for a ladybug party too, just add a couple of large black spots on each cheek.

character and mood of the day. White with dark under-eye shadows makes a great Halloween mummy face, pink and glittery is
perfect for a princess party, lavendar with a few well-placed flowers for a garden party. Clowns are easy - white face with red cheeks and nose, blue crosses over the eyes.
When you're ready, practice a few simple cheek designs. Many face painting books are available with designs from simple to spectacular. Use these to inspire you and practice, practice, practice. The more you practice, the quicker you will be able to complete a design, and your confidence will grow.

Boys: spider, spiderweb, scars, mustache & beard, snake, shark

Another great activity to do with your children during this season is to make your own Advent Calender.(not the ones with candies) Each day note the prayer or song associated with the event and then make a page in your calendar. You can either Scapbook a page or use markers and paint to create a unique keepsake for your children when they are grown.
Sweets are a part of Advent so why not bake a few treats with the little ones. Saffron buns or Advent Cookies are always a hit. You could even use some sugar cookie dough to make the figures for the Christ Child's arrival.
Advent is a really special season and I hope that you plan to celebrate it this year with your family. Children really get excited about the Christ child's coming when they see you excited. It doesn't take much more than 5 - 10 minutes a day to read a story or sing a song to get your children talking about the Advent season.

I remember being a pre-pubescent child of the 80s. One of the biggest things in my life were The Transformers.
I was 9 years old. I remember the moment the school bell rang I had a total of 10 minutes to get home so I could catch the show. I lived close enough that there were no school buses to take me to and from school. But I lived far away enough to know I was going to cut it close.
I always wanted to catch every second of each episode. Especially the beginning. I mean, come one, who could deny that theme song. For those that don't know it (you should be ashamed of yourself) The lyrics consisted of mostly "The Transfomers, More than meets the eye.......The Transformers Robots in Disguise". It was pure poetry to a fourth grader.
By the time I finally made it home, I was drenched in sweat. It also didn't help that I lived in South Florida where it hits 90 degrees every single day and I was running at the peak of the humidity. But when I made it home I gave my mom a quick hello and raced upstairs to the living room.
You didn't hear a peep out of me for the next 30 minutes. I would be completely enthralled with captivating drama of good vs evil. Even though i always knew that the autobots would triumph over the decepticons in every single episode, it was still very climactic. The makers of the show did an excellent job of creating tension.
Those of you who were lucky enough to be around to watch the series can certainly remember the great soundtrack and background music that was played during a battle. Heck, John Williams (Composer of Jaws) would have been proud.
I can safely say that even as a full grown adult. I could still watch those shows today and still be completely entertained. Cartoons like that will always stand the test of time.
Back in the good ole days' those of us in our 20's, 30's, and maybe even early 40's enjoyed some great cartoons back in the 80's. There might be a Saturday where we long for some of our old cartoon companionships on a dreary rainy or snowy morning. When we were children, we woke up early in the morning, just so we could begin the day with our favorite pals.
Now as the years have passed, and watching some of the newer and futuristic cartoons, we long for the familiar. Where have some of our old favorite cartoons gone? Will we ever get to see them again? With the great birth of the internet, it could be possible to see some of our old friends and possibly even introduce them to our own children.
One of the old popular cartoons was the Smurfs. They aired on television from 1981-1986, and some channels even carried some reruns as well. Actually, for the year 2008, the Smurfs are celebrating their 50th anniversary on their website. Fans of the Smurfs can purchase figurines to celebrate the special occasion. You can also catch the celebration at Happy Smurf Day on the internet too. While the Smurfs aired as cartoons in the 80's, their first appearance was actually on October 23, 1958. They were featured in a story of Johan & Peewit in "Le Journal de Spirou". They were also just secondary characters. After being in the story, then the Smurfs appeared in a film called The Magic Flute with music that was written by Michel Legrand. While the cartoon may have aired long ago, the Smurfs are still widely popular. Their books, figurines, and toys are still the most popular in the world, and their cds have sold 10 million copies in the last three years. For those who long to see episodes of the Smurfs, you can purchase the video collection in a dozen different languages and also in story-cd's as well. Another popular series was the almighty, "She-Ra, Princess of Power." Young girls all over wanted to be powerful and beautiful just like the princess She-Ra. Shera was a spin-off cartoon from the He-Man series. Girls longed to wait for her to change over to She-Ra as she withdrew her sword into the air while a wild pop music tune played as she announced that she was yet, "Shera-Princess of Power." Her long flowing blond hair danced in the wind as she road upon her horse to go save the world and rescue those in need. And her brother He-man she stayed loyal and true, as they fought on the same side with the good trying to put evil in its place. Season one began with its first episode, Into Etheria Part , which aired September 9th, 1985. She-Ra-continued on through 1987 with over ninety cartoon episodes. Along with the airing of the cartoon, popular figures and toys were released during the period. Some of these toys can now hardly be found and are now considered rare items. For those who want to relive the Shera days, DVD collections of the show were released in 2006 and 2007. She-Ra: Princess of Power, Season 1, Volume one was released in November of 2006 and Season 1, Volume 2 was released April of 2007. Old episodes of She-Ra can also be watched at youtube.
One last great cartoon to watch on Saturday mornings was a cartoon about a family of little people who lived in people's homes. It was called "The Littles." There were William and Willa Little, the children, Tom and Lucy, and Uncle Pete. The Littles had some amazing adventures and viewers would even get a little nervous when these little gals found themselves in some trouble or danger. The Littles became friends with the young boy, Henry, whose home they lived in. Henry was one of the few who really knew about the Littles. The Littles were always running away from the evil scientist, Dr Hunter, who was always trying to capture this little family. He wanted to try and catch them so that he would become rich and powerful. The Littles aired on the ABC network from 1983-1985. Some of the shows even reaired on the Toon Disney network from 1998-2002. They have also been in syndication from 2003-2007. So there is a chance that you might have even caught this widely popular cartoon show. If you are craving some of the non-stop action adventures of the Littles Family, the entire series from 1984 can be purchased at amazon for $35.99. Prison Break Season 1 started in 2005 and quickly became an incredibly popular show about innocence, murder, and mystery. Many people believed that the first season could have been made into a very high quality film due to the engrossing plot and action, though the writers managed to stretch it into a full four seasons. It all started out with Lincoln Burrows being tried and convicted for murdering a man named Terrence Steadman.
Terrance happens to be the brother of the incumbent Vice President, and so Lincoln is given the death penalty. Lincoln's brother, Michael Scofield, believes that his brother is innocent, and devises a plan to get him out of prison to avoid being executed. He figures that the easiest way to get into prison would be earning a sentence, so he commits armed robbery. He is sent to prison where he and his brother try to devise a way to avoid the impending execution. Fortunately, they have a friend on the outside that is working to figure out who framed Lincoln. The friend's name is Veronica Donovan, and in Prison Break Season 1 she makes every possible effort to uncover any motives behind eliminating Lincoln while the two brothers struggle to survive in prison.
Without spoiling too much of the plot of Prison Break Season 1, you will understandably be itching to see what happens each episode, as the characters are developed very well. In other words, you will come to grow and love the imprisoned brothers and feel anxiety as they struggle against all odds. It really makes you think how scary it would be to be wrongfully accused for something and sentenced to death because of it. Would you have someone do everything possible to emancipate you? Would you do the same for a loved one that was errantly convicted?
It is really hard to say without being in that situation yourself, but Prison Break Season 1 is only the tip of the iceberg. The following three seasons really build on the story and the entire conspiracy that started it all, giving you bits and pieces each episode until the fourth season where everything starts coming together. The fact that the writers chose to end the series after four seasons really allows you to watch the show without feeling like they're just stringing you along and it gives them time to answer all your questions.
